Project Outcomes

During the consultation period a total of 39 feedback forms were received regarding this proposal. Of these responses, 87% (34 people) indicated they were in support and 13% (5 people) were opposed. One written submission was also received.

Council staff considered the feedback received from the community engagement outcomes report and updated the plan to reflect the community’s preferences.

Based on community feedback some changes to the plan include:

  • Final playground equipment selections as preferred by community and in line with service standards for a local level play space. These are:
    1. Climbing – log & rope climbing structure
    2. Swinging – standard swing set with a basket seat, toddler seat and standard swing seat
    3. Dynamic play – wobble log
    4. Slide mound with rock scramble and flat platforms
  • Relocation of some elements in the playspace to keep away from underground services

A final updated version of the concept plan is available here.

Pending Council support for the upgrades, it is anticipated that works would commence in the next 2-3 years depending on other playground priorities across Council. We will provide updates for when work is to begin with on our website, signage on the reserve and post on our social channels.

Background

We are seeking community feedback about proposed upgrades for Fairleigh Reserve and playspace in Modbury North. These upgrades involve the renewal of the existing playspace in its current location with new and additional equipment, and minor upgrades along the length of the reserve.

In 2020, Council endorsed the Dry Creek Corridor Modbury Precinct Master Plan which proposed upgrades along this section of the Corridor. The development of an overarching masterplan for the Dry Creek Corridor is in planning phase, incorporating information from the Biodiversity Plan and a cultural heritage assessment.

Proposed upgrades include:

  • New and additional play equipment
  • Irrigated lawn kickabout area
  • Picnic setting and bench seating
  • Landscaping
  • Bike amenities
  • Drink fountain
  • Upgrades to pathways
  • New tree plantings

For more information, please refer to the Information Sheet and Fairleigh Reserve draft concept plan.

An Easy Read version of the draft Fairleigh Reserve concept design is also available.
