Council decision/outcomes

During the consultation period we received 52 feedback form responses and one email response. Of the feedback form responses, 41 (79%) were supportive of installing a swing at Tarni Reserve, 10 (19%) were opposed, and one person (2%) was neutral. Based on the responses received, the most preferred swing type was the multi-directional basket swing (option 1a).

At its meeting on Tuesday 8 February 2022, Council considered the feedback received from the community and made the decision to construct a new multi-directional basket swing and associated park improvements at Tarni Reserve, and to amend the Community Land Management Plan for Fairview Park to reflect the inclusion of playground equipment on Tarni Reserve.

Background

Council is seeking feedback from the community about a proposal to install a swing on Tarni Reserve, Fairview Park.

Last year Council removed a homemade, unapproved and non-compliant swing from Tarni Reserve. Following this removal a petition with 55 signatures was presented to Council at a meeting on 24 November 2020, calling for the swing to either be reinstated or a new replacement swing to be installed.

After further consideration by Council, $17,000 has now been allocated to install either a small basket swing or single traditional swing set, along with loose-fill pine chip softfall.

If a swing was to be installed at Tarni Reserve an amendment would need to be made to the Fairview Park Community Land Management Plan, in which Tarni Reserve is listed, to reflect the addition of play equipment at this reserve.

Read the Information Sheet for further information including a map showing the proposed location for the swing and proposed swing design options.
