Compassionate Communities Survey
Consultation has concluded
Update
Thank you to everyone who contributed to this survey.
We received 56 responses and we are grateful to report that over half of respondents expressed interest in actively supporting this project.
Your valuable responses and shared experiences have assisted us in learning what supports are already in place as well as the gaps in services available in our community. There were also numerous ideas and suggestions that have informed and helped us to shape future programming.
The programs and topics that had the highest levels of interest in the survey were:
Programs:
- Café Conversations on a related topic once a month
- Carer and illness support groups
- Friendship bench
Information sessions:
- Preparing a checklist of what to do after someone dies
- Organising an Advance Care Directive
- Planning a funeral and options available
- Organising palliative care
We are putting together a calendar of potential programs, information sessions and events. Please visit our website for updates about the program and opportunities to attend.
If you have any questions about the Compassionate Communities Program, please contact Carly Didcote, Community Capacity Coordinator on 8397 7444.
Background
Conversations around end of life can be challenging, but talking can help.
To support our community in preparing for end of life in a compassionate way, Council has received funding to pilot a Compassionate Communities program from The Hospital and Research Foundation, with support from Palliative Care SA.
Between August 2021 and April 2022 we will be trialling activities, information sessions and places to have end of life conversations; which we hope will lead to a more compassionate, resilient, mindful and prepared community.
If you:
- Are aged 65+ years, or
- Have experienced grief in the past two years, or
- Have a chronic or terminal illness
You can help us by sharing your views on the best way to support our community around death, dying and grief by completing a short survey.
If you need assistance to participate in this survey, or have any questions about the Compassionate Communities program, please call Kelly Morris, Senior Community Projects Officer on 8397 7444 or send us a message
