Background

The Modbury Jets Amateur Football Club (MJAFC) has asked Council to consider the installation
of permanent sports field floodlighting and back netting on Ladywood Reserve (corner of Ladywood Road and Milne Road).

The proposal

Council is proposing the installation of 4 x 22m poles with 12 LED sports floodlights (3 lights per pole). The lights are proposed to be used during the Club's evening training sessions, currently Tuesday and Thursday for the months of March to September (winter season).

Provision to install sports field floodlighting at Ladywood Reserve was included in the capital works program for 2019-2020 financial year, and listed in the Annual Business Plan endorsed by Council at its meeting on 25 June 2019. The project has been costed at $150,000 and MJAFC will contribute $50,000 towards it.

The need of back netting was identified as a priority given the close proximity of the soccer goals to Ladywood Road, Derribong Road and neighbouring residents. Based on preliminary designs, the back netting proposed would be 6 metres high and 30 metres long and be installed permanently behind each goal.

Installation of permanent sports field floodlighting and/or back netting to this reserve would
require an amendment to the Community Land Management Plan for Ladywood Reserve.

More details about this proposal are available in the Information Sheet.
