Modbury Madhouse

I grew up in the house across the road from where I live now. I had so many 'Aunts and Uncles' in the neighbourhood growing up I knew I could go into numerous houses to get fed or just to hang out. And everybody hung out at our place (the Modbury Madhouse) as Mum was the best cook in the neighbourhood!

Now I am an adult with my own children and I moved back here as a single parent 10 years ago, and guess what, I still have a neighbourhood of people I can just pop into. Not as many of the original owners are still here but everyone is still willing to help out in a time of crisis.

Our pet bird got trapped when I was at work one day. My children went from house to house looking for someone to be home and help. They got lucky at the fourth house and found someone home. The neighbour came over, dismantled my china cabinets to remove them and retrieve the bird. I came home to a happy household and dusted furniture. You can't get much better help than that!

Hi DianaH. thanks for sharing your story. It is great to hear that not much has changed in regards to how friendly people are in your neighbourhood and the fact that they are always willing to help other out. This really helps people to feel connected to where they live.
