Council decision/outcomes

Council considered the feedback provided by the community at its meeting on Tuesday, 27 June 2023.

Read the community engagement outcomes report

At this same meeting Council made the decision to progress the upgrades to Palomino Reserve and playspace, including the amendment to the Community Land Management Plan to include a shade structure.

Based on community feedback some changes to the plan include:

  • Final playground equipment selections as preferred by the community and in line with service standards for a local level playspace. These are:
    • Balancing – a small group of soft fall bubbles and single jumping pad
    • Sensory – sensory board (not incorporating chimes)
    • Swinging – basket swing
    • Sliding and climbing– slide structure with steps for toddlers and a cargo net
    • Spinning – spinning spheres
    • Imaginative play – small wine barrel tunnel and grape themed chalk board
  • One seat to be located to north of playground area

A final updated version of the concept plan is available here.

Background

We are seeking community feedback about proposed upgrades for Palomino Reserve and playspace in Wynn Vale. The City of Tea Tree Gully’s Playground Guide identifies Palomino Reserve playground as a local level playground which caters for people living within walking distance (500m). It is proposed to move the playground location up the hill to a flatter area to ensure greater access and inclusion, while retaining a large grass kickabout area and reducing significant changes to the existing irrigation system.

Subject to final design, the proposed upgrades include:

  • Upgraded playspace to meet the standard for a local level playspace incorporating swings, climbing structure, spinner, seating, jumping steppers, log and rock trail and sensory panel. It is proposed the playspace will incorporate a ‘grapevine’ theme which acknowledges the history of the reserve prior to subdivision as vineyards and the naming of nearby streets. This theme will be reflected in the new playground’s colour, equipment and style of plantings. The concepts of adventure and exploration will also be used in the play equipment’s design.
  • Feature garden beds with sensory planting and grapevines that have been propagated from the same Lot 50 grapevine plant stock
  • Accessible adventure path incorporating flush timber stepping planks
  • New inclusive picnic area with shelter, picnic setting, seats, bin, drinking fountain, trees to provide shade amenity and screening
  • Concrete path with vine leaf imprints through the playspace
  • Compacted rubble path
  • Remediated irrigated lawn area and existing trees to be retained and protected

Palomino Reserve is part of the Community Land Management Plan (CLMP) for Wynn Vale. This CLMP does not currently note the inclusion of picnic/shade shelters. Should this infrastructure be installed as proposed, the Wynn Vale CLMP would need to be amended to reflect this. Additionally, the existing drinking fountain and irrigated turf area proposed for upgrade and not currently included in this CLMP would be added. A draft CLMP can be viewed here.
