Cobbler Creek West Reserve (Samuel Court) Playground Upgrade

Consultation has concluded

Project update

The playground will be aimed at children aged 5-9 years old with the equipment selected including:

  • Basket Style swing (additional swings will be considered if budget allows)
  • Hand glide (small flying fox)
  • Monkey bars (if budget allows)

The multi-use goals have been removed from the plan and there will also be new seating, a bin and picnic setting.

We note that some of the feedback received suggested the inclusion of play equipment suitable for children aged under 5. We have adjusted the targeted age range from 8+ years to 5-9 years which will provide equipment suitable for younger children. We anticipate there is potential for use by children aged under 5 years of age based on individual capability.

Background

We are inviting the community to provide feedback on the proposed playground upgrade at Cobbler Creek West Reserve (Samuel Court), Greenwith.

As part of the Annual Business Plan 2022-2023, Council has allocated $140,000 to replace the ageing playground equipment at Cobbler Creek West Reserve (Samuel Court), Greenwith and to complete general landscape beautification works.

Council manages all playgrounds in accordance with Council’s Playground Guide. In this guide, the playground at Cobbler Creek West Reserve, Samuel Court, Greenwith is classified as a local playground. This classification defines the types of play equipment that would typically be provided.

Local playgrounds primarily cater for people living within walking distance of the playground and generally cater for short visits.

Given the playground’s local classification, the provision of a shade structure, toilet or BBQ are not being considered as part of the proposed works.

More information about how we provide, maintain and develop playgrounds across our City can be found in our Playground guide available on our Have your Say website

Cobbler Creek West Reserve is an important open space and play resource for the local Greenwith community. Before we finalise a concept plan for this playground, we would like understand the community’s views on what’s proposed and suggestions for play equipment and elements.

Proposed upgrades to this part of the reserve and playground include:

  • Replacement of the playground equipment in its current location
  • Tree planting alongside the playground to frame the park and provide shade to the new playground, as well as additional tree planting to continue the avenue of trees along the footpaths connecting Samuel Court to Jacquard Court
  • Installation of junior multi-use sports goals in the kickabout area to provide alternative play and active recreation options in the park
  • Additional seating in the playground area
  • Development of a new picnic area with picnic setting and rubbish bins
  • Construction of a new footpath from the picnic area/playground to the existing footpath to increase accessibility and functionality of the space

In line with the type of equipment typically provided at a local playground, and considering what is already provided at nearby reserves, we are proposing to replace the existing equipment at Cobbler Creek West Reserve (Samuel Court) with a playground suitable for ages 8+ (with potential for use by younger children based on individual capability).

More details about this proposal, including examples of possible play equipment, is available in the Information Sheet

We value your comments and would appreciate your feedback by 5pm, Monday 14 November 2022.

The types of playground equipment shown in the selection area of the feedback form are indicative only and final designs may vary.

All playground equipment selections are subject to budgetary constraints. Whilst every effort has been made to provide example equipment in accordance with the allocated budget, all works remain subject to industry design, pricing and evaluation.

Could you please list what kind of play equipment is suggested/recommended for children aged 8+ ?

D.Goodwin asked over 1 year ago

Hi D.Goodwin, Thank you for your question.

Examples of playground equipment are shown on page 7 of the Information Sheet.

On page 7 of the Playground Guide it defines the play Age groups.

You are welcome to provide suggestions of playground equipment you may have seen or would like to see included with your feedback with consideration for the proposed target age group.

    Kind regards
    Joanne
