Bob White asked over 3 years ago

    Hi Bob

Thank you for your question regarding Solandra Reserve Upgrade, the answer is provided below:

The Dry Creek Corridor masterplan proposes a range of upgrades to the corridor and waterways. These works will contribute to cleaning up the waterways, increasing biodiversity and slowing the flow of Dry Creek to reduce erosion

With regard to the colour of the water, we generally don’t see blue water in our wetlands or lakes. The colour is determined by the quality of the water entering the wetlands, the amount of nutrients in the water along with the presence of algae and duck weed. We regularly undertake water quality testing of the water entering the wetland system, to ensure the water is not contaminated, which I am pleased to confirm that the Solandra Wetlands are not contaminated.

We have been unable to locate the pamphlet you have referred to, but we have found a copy of the concept designs for Solandra Reserve prepared by the City of Tea Tree Gully in 2006/07 and a overview of the development of the reserve summarised below. The plans show a wetland with landscaping surrounding the wetland but there was no irrigated turf extending to the edge of the lake. The reserve was created when the land was subdivided and housing was constructed in the 1970's

    • The reserve was gradually developed with the addition of a path in the 1980’s.
    • A few pieces of playground equipment were added in the 1990's.
    • The first major upgrade of the reserve occurred in 2006/07 by the City of Tea Tree Gully. which included the construction of the wetlands.

I have added the plans to the Have your Say page so you can see that what was proposed reflects the wetlands we see today.

    Kind regards

    Victoria
