Council decisions/outcomes

During the consultation period we received feedback from 34 people regarding this proposal. Of these responses, 97% (33 people) indicated they were in support, 3% (1 person) was opposed. The opportunity to provide feedback was promoted in The Advertiser, via social media posts, signs onsite at Tea Tree Gully Gymsport a direct mailout to approximately 108 property owners/residents and businesses within the vicinity of the proposed lease area.

At its meeting on Tuesday 8 June 2021, Council considered the feedback received from the community and made the decision to grant a lease period of 10 years, as well as an option for a 10 year extension.

Background

Council is inviting community feedback about a proposal to grant a 10 year lease to Tea Tree Gully Gymsports at Elizabeth Street, Banksia Park

TTGGS has been in operation for 50 years and currently have over 1,400 members, which makes them the largest gymnastics club in South Australia. They strive to offer fun, accessible and inclusive gymnastics to all through the provision of competitive and recreational gym sports, including trampolining, kinder-gym and general gymnastics.

TTGGS is a responsible tenant who has maintained the facility to a good standard and is a well-respected community group in the City of Tea Tree Gully. Based on the group’s long standing presence at this site, during the life of the lease, TTGGS would be charged a $1 per annum fee, with annual CPI increases on the yearly anniversary date.

  • Council is seeking feedback from the community about a request from Tea Tree Gully Gymsports Inc to grant them a 10 year lease at their current location within the Banksia Park Sports Area. If approved, the proposal would mean that TTGGS will be granted a 10 year lease (as well as an option for a 10 year renewal extension) providing them with continued exclusive use of the two Council buildings and a shed at 88 Elizabeth Street, Banksia Park.
