Council decision/outcomes

Council considered the feedback provided by the community at its meeting on Tuesday, 11 July 2023.

Read the community engagement outcomes report

At this same meeting Council made the decision to progress the project, including the amendment to the Community Land Management Plan to include a shade structure.

Based on community feedback some changes to the plan include:

  • Final playground equipment selections as preferred by the community and in line with service standard for a neighbourhood level play space
  • Installation of shade sails over the existing playspace due to the high level of support (funded by Council)
  • Drinking fountain to include a dog bowl
  • The alignment of the 3m wide shared use path minimises tree removals, however it may be installed at a width less than 3m where sufficient clearance from trees is not achievable
  • The provision of the following items be deferred to a future stage, but included in the Dry Creek Corridor Masterplan as they are not required as part of the grant funding agreement and some require additional community engagement:
    • BBQ
    • Public toilet adjacent to the playspace
    • Fitness equipment
    • Rubber softfall path in the existing playspace to provide more inclusive access

Council has received $1.1 million in grant funding to support the delivery of the upgrades to Wynn Vale Dam open space and Council has contributed $65,000 for the installation of the shade sails. It is anticipated the project will be completed by 30 June 2024. We will provide updates for when work is to begin with signage on the reserve. You can also check for updates on our website, and we’ll communicate the completed upgrades via our social media channels.

A final updated version of the concept plan is available here.

Background

Council is seeking feedback from the community about proposed upgrades for the open space around Wynn Vale Dam and playspace. Wynn Vale Dam is a large earthen-wall dam located in Jubilee Reserve in the Dry Creek Corridor. It is an important and highly valued community asset that is surrounded by native flora and fauna, footpaths and a playspace located adjacent to De Pledge Court, Wynn Vale.

A draft Wynn Vale Dam Open Space upgrade plan has been developed and proposes delivery in a staged approach. The first stage of upgrades will be funded by a $1.1million State Government grant. Stage 1 upgrades include:

  • Upgraded pedestrian bridges and share use pathways
  • Additional nature playground elements including a custom-made inclusive play boat, balance and water play elements and more
  • Inclusive park furniture including picnic table, shelter, drinking fountain, bin, seating and bike repair station
  • Additional tree planting and landscaping
  • Wayfinding signage, art elements or interpretative signage

Wynn Vale Dam is part of the Wynn Vale Community Land Management Plan (CLMP). This CLMP does not currently note the inclusion of shade sails. Should this structure be installed in the playspace as part of a future stage of works, the Wynn Vale CLMP would need to be amended to reflect this change. A draft CLMP can be found here.

The playspace at De Pledge Court is a neighbourhood level playspace. For more information about how Council maintains their playgrounds, please visit the playground guide.

Is there going to be a public toilet in the vicinity?

Geoff Hillier asked over 1 year ago

    Hi Geoff,

Thank you for your question regarding a public toilet at the dam.

There is currently a public toilet located adjacent to the community garden on the southern side of the dam. At this stage it isn't proposed that an additional public toilet be installed adjacent to the dam.

    Kind regards

    Victoria
